If I Should Die Before I Wake...

Title: If I Should Die Before I Wake
Author: Han Nolan
Rating: 3.5
Comments: I liked it.
Warning: May contain spoilers.

This book was on my sister's shelf and I decided to read it. I've read MANY fictional accounts of the holocaust. I would actually say that books dealing with the holocaust were some of my favourites back in Grade 3-5...I would pick up any one I found on the library shelf. I was naturally drawn to this book.

So, now on to the review. Hilary, is a Jewish-hating girl in a neo-Nazi gang, who gets in an accident. While she is in a hospital, she starts dreaming about living life as Jewish Chana during WW2. This book, for me, had its positive points and its negative points. Hilary is a flat, non-changing character (except at the end). The parts of the book that deal with her perspective are VERY annoying.. her internal dialogue is tedious and very repetitive. In fact, the very chapters themselves are repetitive and I usually skimmed through them.

The book from Chana's perspective, however, was much more interesting. As Chana experienced the trials of being a Jew during WW2, her outlook on life changes continuously, trying to find herself. The chapters provided an interesting plot and viewpoint on the war. Chana's story was enough to get me through the book and leave me relatively satisfied. Although, by the end of the book, I was less annoyed by Hilary, I would have liked to read how her relationship with her mom, her boyfriend and her gang continued and how they reacted to her. I liked it...but it was a one time read.

Hey There!

If you haven't guessed by the title and description..this is basically a blog about books. Mainly book reviews about books I have read.

Being in university and all, I don't get to read as much as I used to. So I made a goal (coincidentally, 2 days away from New Years :P ) to read at least a book a week. Its gonna be crazy (because I get really busy with school work) but I plan on using the time during my commute.

Yup..so if I stick to my goal...the first review I will bring to you is Vilette by Charlotte Bronte, which I am already 1/3 through. I am also reading HP PoA again..and so that might take away some time from Vilette. (Btw, I'm not doing any reviews on the HP books because I have read them wayyyy tooo many times and wouldn't know what to put in the review expect for the fact that they are simply AWESOME. But as thoughts come to me, I might just put in a bit here and there.)
